So today is my last day working in the surgery center. I never, never expected to walk in and find everyone decked out in pirate gear, a pirate cake, lots of pirate goodies and even little skeletons strewn all over the lounge tables. I feel so undeserving and sad to leave this place.
I am absolutely overwhelmed by all of it. It has made me realize that there really are good, caring and hard working people in the world. I sometimes get in the mindset that the youth of today don't know what it means to work hard and actually earn something for themselves. They also seem to have an extreme lack of respect and non-understanding of honor. I do realize though that most of the people I work with are much older than I am, so they don't fall into the "youth" category, but they are or have raised children and that at least gives me hope.
so now that I've chittered on about annoying drivel I will say that I have never worked with more amazing people in my life and I hope that my new co-workers will be just as amazing :)
so I opened an etsy store. soooo excited. I spent most of yesterday making some felt ipod cases for it while Adam worked on the Paper Brain website (which is looking FANTASTIC). I also uploaded some pictures of recent crafts I've done (finally!). I have a lot of sewing projects that didn't make it up yet, but you'll get the idea.
So back to Paper Brain, we played the Rock4Rights benefit show at the Jupiter Hotel on friday night. It was also a battle of the bands. Unfortunately, we didn't have a strong college meathead following...so we didn't win :(
Matt and Wanda made dinner for us tonight, tater-tot meatloaf....soooooo good! As we were all enjoying our after-dinner boxed wine with a nice breeze from the open door a HUGE white dog runs into the house. No one moved for a full minute, we were all completely shocked. It ran right into my room. Ernesto grabbed the dog and we took it outside, it's name was spot. A few minutes later the owner came by in a car. It was one of the strangest things I've ever experienced. ever.
I know I have a lot more to write, but I just can't think of any of it right now. I need a shower and I need to eat. I will probably eat first. yeah. ok.
so I've been kinda busy. really busy in fact. I got this itch to make all these crafts....so I've been staying up really late making felt ipod cases, bookmarks, tiny flowerboxes and credit card cases. I promise pictures of all these projects soon. But the most exciting thing was my trip to IKEA!!!! Do you see how excited we all are?!?! So I look like I am wearing a tupee and praying...but, it's only because I was SO excited.
So after spending money that I'm not supposed to be spending on small, amazing household indulgences....I went home and crafted all night. ahhhhhh :)I also have some super exciting band news, but I'm not ready to tell it yet....we did have an amazing show at the "how oregon are you" backyard bash. We are also looking forward to the 3900ft. festival that's rapidly approaching. I believe we have a couple new shows at the end of August...but you'll have to check the Paper Brain site for more info.
Yesterday Mike and I ventured down to Salem to visit our brother, Chris and his family for the last time before they go back home to Phoenix. Realizing that gas was a whole 3 cents per gallon cheaper in Salem, I decided to fill up on our way back to Portland (my car just happened to be almost out of gas at this point). So I roll my window down, pop the gas door open and hand the attendant my debit card and say, "20 regular please". He swipes my card 3 or 4 times and then hands it back saying, "your card is being declined". ooooooooh, not good. Realizing I had no other way to pay for gas I turned to Mike....but, we both get paid tomorrow and he was not sure there would be money in his account. Fortunately, he did have 3 singles in his wallet. gulp. So I got myself a gallon of gas and said a few silent prayers to get us home on what I figured would be fumes. Thankfully we made it with some fuel to spare. I ran to my laptop to find out why my card was declined, but ALAS! The bank's system was down. arrrrgh. This is the point where I made my latest resolution: Keep track of every penny I spend*
Thankfully this morning I was able to view my account and nothing was wrong. Apparently it was just a system outage, but this got me thinking, 'should I get a credit card for emergencies such as this?'
So now that I will no longer be tossing my pennies to the wind I will have some extra dimes to purchase things I REALLY need like those amazingly cute cupcake ipod speakers pictured so lovingly at the top of this post :)
*I figured that this would show me how much I carelessly spend on things I don't need and how much I could be saving.
This is probably one of my favorite videos I've ever found on You Tube. Watching it always makes me happy, plus the music is great.....makes me think of that kid's news show Popcorn. I'm obviously not motivated to do much work today :)
Yesterday I went home early, we had one case and everyone else was gone, so I thought...why not?. I got home, made some yummmmmy pasta and was actually sitting down to do some work when someone knocks on the door. It was a guy coming to look at the basement apartment. He'd already been waiting a while for the landlord and I told him he'd probably be waiting a bit longer, so I took him down to the apartment to look around a bit. Seemed like a nice fellow. Hank (our landlord) didn't show up for another 45 mins, so the guy just hung out while I made a cherry cobbler (well...I sorta made one...I think our oven is a bit off).
Today I discovered that we get a discount on home delivery of Safeway food. Only 3 dollars for grocieries under 150.00 or free if you spend more than 150.00. I am going to try it out. Safeway is mega expensive for some reason, but getting it delivered to my house??! Too fun to pass up. I will get the roomies in on it too....they'll love it.
Yesterday I got this urge to make bookmarks. I have been using receipts, paper scraps and even my flexcar card as make-shift bookmarks and I was just getting tired of it. It only took me a couple hours and I had 5 amazingly cool bookmarks; complete with clay bobbles! I will take some pics to post on here soon.
Today was spent with the fam once again. Chris, Rhonda and the kids met up with us at the Laurelwood Brew Pub for some lunch. The kids got their food right away, but for some reason our orders didn't go through, so it took almost an hour longer for our food to come. By that point, the kids were antsy and ready to run around. After lunch we took them to see Mike's house, then to see mine. The kids were really excited to see Pearl and she lapped up the attention. I was really surprised that she just laid there and let them muss up her fur. :)
I walked them to the Tram, but when we got there it was the last run so I walked back home and drove down to the waterfront to pick them up. I just saw them off and will hopefully get together with them again before they leave on Friday.
For now I'm off to Trivia.....hopefully to win! :)
So our landlord is a nut. Not really a nut, just dumb. Really dumb. It's been 3 weeks and he still hasn't been able to get a plumber to the house to fix the non-working dishwasher, but he's had plenty of time to stop by unannounced which we've told him is illegal. There's more to that story, but I'd rather not get into it. It's just irritating.
I have no idea why, but I love Judge Judy. People's court is pretty good too. I know, I'm lame.
My room is still not put together. There are a lot of projects I have in mind for it. I also planted a veggie garden in a planter that Adam made for me. It's amazing. He did a really good job on it. I can't wait to have a salad from my own garden! Yum!
